Preserving bridge piers helps preserve our legacy

To the Editor:
The art-deco bridge piers adjacent to the K-177 viaduct spanning the Kansas River near the Discovery Center were built in 1936. Those piers and bridge replaced a wooden bridge built in 1871 that survived the flood of 1903 but was destroyed by the flood of 1935.
