Power outages reported

By Corene Brisendine

About 2,100 Manhattan residents were without power Saturday evening in an unexplained outage.

Westar Energy and Riley County Police responded to many calls of power outages Saturday. According to the Westar website, 2,094 residents in Riley County were without power as of 7:45 p.m. By 10 p.m., most of those outages had been resolved.

The company’s outage map showed that most of the affected residences were in the Northview area, near Eisenhower Middle School.

RCPD dispatchers said that they referred callers to Westar’s outage hotline throughout the evening and that Westar crews were working on it, but did not know the cause of the outages.

Westar representatives were not available for comment.
