Post to initiate new traffic plan for I-70

By Steve Stallwitz

Fort Riley, in coordination with the Kansas Department of Transportation and the surrounding communities, will implement new traffic control measures at exit 301 off Interstate 70 to assist with access to the post during peak arrival hours.

The decision to change traffic and ease access to the post was made to mitigate the traffic problems and safety concerns at exit 301 off Interstate 70.

Starting Monday, the following regulations will apply between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. Monday through Friday, excluding training holidays and federal holidays:

• Only inbound traffic will be allowed on Henry Drive; there will be no outbound traffic.

• All outbound traffic on Henry Drive will be directed around Ray Road to the airfield and all inbound traffic going to the airfield will be directed to Smoky Hill. In essence, drivers will be able to enter the installation and get to work. Drivers going to the airfield will be directed to the airfield.

• Drivers will not be allowed to use Henry Drive to exit the post between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m.

• No large vehicles or tractor trailers may use Henry Gate between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m.
