One person is dead following a multiple-vehicle accident on the eastbound Kansas Highway 18 bridge near the Riley County/Geary County line Friday morning.

The deceased man’s name has not been released pending notification of family members, but Lt. Greg Harkrader with the Kansas Highway Patrol said he died after falling from the bridge.

The accident occurred at about 7 a.m. and officials were still on the scene investigating its cause at the time of publication.

Harkrader said officials believe the deceased man was either ejected from a vehicle during the crash, hit by a vehicle while on the bridge or dove out of the way of an oncoming vehicle, falling to his death.

It was unclear at the time of publication how many vehicles were involved in the crash.

Officials are asking that any witnesses contact Kansas Highway Patrol Troop C headquarters in Salina at (785)-827-3065.
