Riley County police on Saturday were searching for a man suspected of raping a woman in her mid-twenties known to him.

The search comes after police received a call reporting a rape at 12:45 p.m. on Friday. The crime reportedly occurred in the northern part of Riley County within an hour of the call.

Officers are seeking a suspect described as a black man in his mid-twenties, 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 160 pounds, who was last seen wearing a black shirt with black sweat pants.

He may have facial hair or a goatee.

“There’s no evidence to suggest he’s a danger to the public,” RCPD Officer Matthew Droge said. “It appears to be an isolated incident.”

RCPD officers, along with officials from the Kansas Highway Patrol and Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism were dispatched to a heavily wooded area in an attempt to locate the suspect, who had fled the scene on foot.

Due to the nature of the crime, no further information has been released. Police ask that those with any information on the case call 785-537-2112 or 911.
