Police released the name of a 15-year-old Manhattan boy taken into the custody of the Geary County Juvenile Detention Center after Riley County police detained him March 19 for several drug charges and battery against a law enforcement officer.

Desmond Williams was detained in the 700 block of Yuma Street earlier this month after officers investigated the smell of burnt marijuana in the area.

Sgt. Brad Ingalls said a physical altercation ensued after officers made contact with Williams, which resulted in one officer being battered. Ingalls said the boy was then brought to the police department where he reportedly damaged the drywall of an interview room.

Williams was arrested for conspiracy to distribute marijuana; felony and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of marijuana; unlawful possession of drug proceeds; battery of a law enforcement officer; interference with law enforcement; and criminal damage to property.
