Police investigating three vehicle fires

The Riley County Police Department is investigating a series of fires that occurred in the wee hours this morning on Moro Street.

At around 2:10 a.m., the RCPD and the Manhattan Fire Department found a vehicle on fire on the 800 block of Moro Street.

Around five minutes later, they responded to a fire in a stairwell at an apartment complex at 801 Moro St., and within 45 minutes they received yet another complaint of a vehicle on fire at 823 Moro St.

There were no injuries in the fires, but damage to three vehicles totaled $26,000.

Although only two vehicles were ignited, a third vehicle was sitting next to the two that caught fire and sustained some damage.

The vehicles involved were: a Nissan owned by Hector Pedroza, 28, Manhattan; a Toyota Camry owned by Ellyn Calvert, 21, Manhattan; and a Ford F350 owned by Michael Petrie, 21, also of Manhattan.

Police and MFD officials are investigating the fires.
