By The Mercury

Police are estimating that the damage caused by a driver who apparently intentionally drove into Pawnee Mental Health Services on Claflin Road Tuesday is approximately $15,000.

Officer Matthew Droge clarified Wednesday that the driver, Michael West, 61, 1416 Yuma St., struck a sign and light posts in front of the entrance of the agency Tuesday a little before 8:30 a.m.

Droge said one of the light posts fell forward into the front glass doors of the building.

Officers arrested West at the scene for criminal damage to property and reckless driving.

West’s motives for allegedly intentionally driving into the sign were not indicated by police.

He was released from the Riley County Jail on $4,000 bond.
