A 26-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured Friday evening after he was struck by a car in the 400 block of 11th Street. Officials said initial reports indicate the pedestrian ran in front of the car from an alleyway.

Riley County EMS transported Kevin Wallpe, Manhattan, to Mercy Regional Health Center where he was later flown to Stormont Vail in Topeka with reportedly life-threatening injuries.

Officials said Wallpe was struck by a black 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Matthew VanHorn, 18, Manhattan. Lt. Josh Kyle said VanHorn was driving southbound on 11th Street, just north of Fremont Street, when his car struck Wallpe.

The accident is under investigation.
