Pedestrian hit near Westloop

By The Mercury

A pedestrian was hit late Monday morning by a vehicle while crossing a crosswalk in the Westloop Shopping Center.

Lt. Josh Kyle said Curtis Balinger, 41, Manhattan, was hit when Earl Lemar, 74, Topeka, driving a white 2003 Ford E250 van, attempted to turn onto Anderson Avenue from the shopping center.

Riley County EMS transported Balinger to Mercy Regional Health Center for an injured left arm and neck and head pain.

Officers cited Lemar for failure to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Kyle said the incident occurred at about 10:45 a.m.
