To the editor:
The Manhattan/Riley County Preservation Alliance (M/RCPA) in partnership with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a music fraternity at Kansas State University, will present the “Holiday Musical Spectacular” at Peace Memorial Auditorium, 1101 Poyntz Ave., at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The program will feature holiday music in a range of styles, from classical to jazz. Groups performing include Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Brass En-semble, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Chorus, Sinfonia Swingers Jazz Ensemble, In-A-Chord Concert Choir, K-State Latin Jazz En-semble, EKW Percussion Trio with Garrett Lloyd, K-State Trombone Ensemble, and Aaron Cunningham, vocals.
The program is free and open to the public with donations appreciated for the restoration of Peace Memorial Auditorium, which is a World War II memor-ial.
Following a communitywide effort in 1946, the citizens of Manhattan approved a bond to build an auditorium that would serve as a living memorial to the 2,610 Riley Countians who served and the 101 soldiers who lost their lives in World War II. Completed in 1955, Peace Memorial Auditorium is in need of improvements to its electrical system, sound system, stage lighting and other areas.
Donations will be accepted at the door the evening of the program to help finance these improvements. Donations to the M/RCPA are tax-deductible and may also be sent to the M/RCPA, P. O. Box 1893, Manhattan, KS 66505. The M/RCPA hopes you will join us for the concert and will help with efforts to restore Peace Memorial Auditorium.
