Peace Memorial Auditorium has been one of city’s gems

To the Editor:
I was saddened to see that the Peace Memorial Auditorium at City Hall will be taken down. There is something special about heavy burgundy or taupe curtains being opened amidst silence from an unlighted audience. Then the performer walks onto the stage and lifts the bow or sits in the flower-print 1930s-era armchair at the beginning of a play.
