Parole denied for man convicted in 1974 murder

By The Mercury

TOPEKA — A 66-year-old man convicted of murder, rape and kidnapping almost 40 years ago was denied parole this week.

According to information on the Kansas Department of Corrections website, Frank Pencek was not eligible because his next possible release date is not until January of 2017. He is currently an inmate at the Kansas State Penitentiary in Lansing.

Pencek, who was convicted in 1975 for the May 1974 murder of Elizabeth Bush, 20, at Milford Lake, also was denied parole at a hearing in December.

Bush was a Kansas State University student pursuing a recreation degree and was working at the lake at the time.  She was stabbed 27 times.
