Parks and rec venue plan hits commission

Here comes the first pitch.

City commissioners will hear a presentation from a local group known proposing a huge revamping of Manhattan’s sports and recreation facilities at their Tuesday work session.

The public event is scheduled for 5 p.m. at City Hall.

The meeting will give commissioners their first chance to discuss a feasibility study developed by the so-called “Fieldhouse Group.”

Both commissioners and promoters have encouraged residents interested in the project to attend the meeting.

“It’s a huge proposal,” mayor John Matta said, “and there will be a lot of questions for the commission and the entire community.”

In addition to listening to a report about the city’s sports facilities, commissioners will receive an annual economic development report from city staff members. The report is designed to promote accountability by all recipients of economic development funds.

Commissioners will not be voting on Tuesday because it is a work session.
