By The Mercury

Daniel Parker, 25, made his first court appearance Friday through video conference at Riley County Disrict Court. Magistrate Judge Sheila Hochhauser read his formal charges and appointed him a public defender.

Parker is charged with the first degree murder of Frederick Beverly, 21, who was shot outside the Assassin Street Rydaz clubhouse at 1827 Fair Lane on New Year’s Day. He is also charged with criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling.

Parker is a specialist in the Army and has served two one-year tours in Iraq.

Hochhauser assigned his case to Judge David Stutzman. His next court appearance will be at 1 p.m. on Jan. 17.
