Pair arrested in Pott Co. car/foot chase

A multi-agency car chase earlier this week became a foot chase and ended with a Missouri man and woman behind bars in Pottawatomie County.

On Thursday, Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat stated in a news release that 28-year-old Ashley Gillispie and 30-year-old Jason Gillispie were arrested and remain in custody at the Pottawatomie County Jail.

Riat stated the two Higbee, Mo., residents were the occupants of a white Nissan pickup truck that fled Wednesday after being stopped by a sheriff’s deputy at about 4 p.m. on Oregon Trail Road, about 3 miles west of St. Marys.

During the stop, the deputy learned at least one of the truck’s two occupants had a Missouri arrest warrant.

But while the deputy gathered the information, the vehicle fled east on Highway 24 toward St. Marys.

The Kansas Highway Patrol, Rossville Police Department and Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the chase, using stop sticks several times to deflate the truck’s tires.

The truck continued east into Silver Lake in Shawnee County, where Ashley Gillispie drove it off the road at the T intersection of Rice Road and Railroad Street.

Once off the road, the occupants fled on foot, although officers soon apprehended them.

Both were arrested on outstanding Missouri warrants.

In addition, Ashley Gillispie was arrested for fleeing and eluding, possession of illegal drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jason Gillispie was arrested for possession of illegal drugs and obstruction.
