Optimists grateful for support of tree lot

By Letters to the Editor

To the Editor: The Manhattan Breakfast Optimist Club would like sincerely to thank everyone who supported the Optimist Christmas Tree Lot this past holiday season. We had another successful year, thanks to those who purchased trees or decorations from us.

We would like especially to recognize several local businesses that made special contributions to our efforts this year. These tree lot business supporters include McKinzie Pest Control, Mead Lumber Do-It Center, Little Apple Toyota Honda, Briggs Auto Group, Community First National Bank and the ICE Corporation.

All of the proceeds from the tree lot remain in the Manhattan community and benefit local youth and community projects. These projects include the Optimist Ball Park, which is used practically year-round by Optimist-supported fast-pitch softball teams, the K-State fast-pitch club team and the Optimist T-Ball program.

Other youth activities supported by the funds generated from our Christmas tree sales include Kid Wrestling, Manhattan Cross Country, the Manhattan Marlins, the Gold Orchestra, Parks and Recreation sports teams, the Ogden Friendship House, the Boys and Girls Club, 4-H Fair Fun Day, Early Expressions Kids’ Art Fair, Pawnee Mental Health Camp Stars and the MHS Pops Choir.

Thanks again for patronizing the Optimist Tree Lot this season and helping us to support positive activities for local youth. Bruce Bidwell 1524 Nichols Jim Franke 3339 Newbury Tree Lot Co-chairs
