Optimist X-Plosion takes third

The Manhattan Optimist X-Plosion took third place in the Bite Outta the Lil’ Apple tournament this past weekend in Manhattan.

The X-Plosion started off the tournament in pool play by dropping their first game 8-1 to the Chapman Irish Inferno. Hits by Suther, Miller and Petty weren’t enough to hold off theInferno.

Petty took her second loss of the season in the circlewith five strikeouts, four walks and allowing only seven hits, bringing her record to 4-2.

The X-Plosion then defeated the Topeka Bandettes 9-4. Hits by Suther, Eichem, Silva and Mitoska and eight walked batters helped seal the win. 

Eichem recorded her first win in the circle by allowing eight hits, with four strikeouts and one walk to bring her season record to 1-3.

The X-Plosion rounded out pool play Saturday night against the Riley Rebels. Hits from Suther, Brunkow, Eichem, Miller and Buss with 11 walked batters helped in the 12-6 win over the Rebels.

Mitoska got the win in the circle with six strikeouts in four innings. She walked none and allowed six hits.

The X-Plosion entered bracket play on Sunday as the No. 3 seed and a rematch with the Bandettes. Mitoska was in the circle for the 10-5 win, allowing only six hits, striking out four and walking one, bringing her season total to 2-2.

Hits from Brunkow, Petty, Miller, Mitoska, Buss and Schnee and eight walked batters helped in the effort to move the X-Plosion on to the next round.

The X-Plosion then faced the Manhattan Bullets and lost 6-3. Suther allowed seven hits, while striking out four and walking one.

The 3-2 record for the weekend brings the X-Plosion to 9-11 on the season.

The X-Plosion will compete this weekend in Topeka at the USSSA state tournament.

Members of the X-Plosion include Carley Nelson, Demi Kunkel, Grace Suther, Tatum Brunkow, Haley Petty, Joceline Eichem, Olivia Miller, Dani Silva, Alyssa Mitoska, Alee Buss and Chloe Schnee.
