Optimist X-Plosion take third at Lake Shawnee

The Manhattan Optimist 12-and-under X-Plosion competed in the “Bringn’ the Heat” tournament at Lake Shawnee this past weekend in Topeka. The X-Plosion recorded a 2-3 record to finish third.

On Saturday, the X-Plosion defeated the Bandettes 12-5 with pitcher Grace Suther recording the win with five strikeouts. Hits by Joceline Eichem, Haley Petty, Alyssa Mitoska, Tatum Brunkow, Grace Suther and Chloe Schnee helped seal the win.

The X-Plosion was unable to get any offense going and dropped the next game to the Topeka Fire-Storm 6-1. Eichem took the loss.

The X-Plosion then faced the Topeka Revolution. Hits by Eichem, Mitoska, Brunkow, Schnee, Carley Nelson, Alee Buss and Dani Silva came up short in the 8-4 loss. Mitoska recorded the loss.

The X-Plosion went into Sunday’s bracket play as the No. 3 seed. They faced the Topeka Fire-Storm in their first game with hits by Eichem, Mitoska, Brunkow, Suther, Nelson and Olivia Miller falling short 4-2. Suther got the loss in the circle.

Their next game was against the Bandettes for third place. Petty recorded the 10-0 win with eight strikeouts and allowed only three hits.

The Manhattan Optimist X-Plosion is now 5-6 on the season and will play next in the Capital City State Invitational in Topeka June 2-3.
