The Manhattan Optimist Sting 18-and-under fastpitch team took fifth out of 21 teams in a Memorial Day weekend tournament in Kansas City.
The Sting went 2-2-2 on Saturday and Sunday losing only by one run in both loses. The tournament was cut short on Monday due to inclement weather.
This past weekend, the Sting placed fourth at the Capital City Showdown in Topeka going 3-2-1.
In pool play on Saturday, the Sting defeated the Topeka Heat 4-2, followed by a loss to the Manhattan Optimist Moxie 8-5.
The final bracket game ended in a 1-1 tie after a hard fought battle.
Bracket play started Sunday morning with a win over the Topeka Heat 12-8. The second bracket game was a close one with the Blue Aces coming out on top 4-1. They went on to win the tournament.
The Sting won the final consolation game 6-4, as their season record is now 5-4-3.
Sting players include Sydney Bannister, Lindsey Hageman, Kerrigan Simons, Jordan Ummel, Madison Fief, Caitlyn Claussen, Alex Perez, Kelsey Jones, Allie Martin, Katelin Hoefler, Alyssa Kulp, Jennifer Griffitt, and Savannah Thaemert.
The Sting coaching includes Grant Bannister, Greg Fief, Mark Claussen and Ron Hageman.
The Sting will play in Manhattan’s “Bite Outta the Lil’ Apple” tournament this weekend.
