Optimist Fury plays in KC

The Manhattan Optimist 12-and-under Fury girls softball team traveled to Olathe on Sunday to participate in the “Hit for the Cure” cancer benefit tournament. The Fury Family wore special pink jerseys to honor cancer victims.

The Fury swept through three games Sunday, defeating Kansas Kayoss, Olathe Hot Stix, and KC Premiere.

In the championship game, Fury pitcher Katie Suther smothered the hot-hitting Fireballs for a 6-3 victory.

Members of the Fury include Emma Faulkner, Sydney Hefty, Hannah Divine, Suther, Lawsyn Rowden, Nicki Keller, Amanda Luthi, Taylor Ruckert, Anna Batt, Emma Schoenbeck and Orianna Clements.

Fury coaches are Clem Suther, Jen Faulkner and Jeff Keller.

With the sweep, Fury stands at 10-1 on the young season.
