Optimist Aftershock plays in Clay Center

By The Mercury

The Manhattan Optimist Aftershock 14-and-under fastpitch softball team played in the Clay Center Invitational this past weekend.

The Aftershock lost to the Salina Pink Panthers in their first game. There wasn’t much offense with Maigan Powers and Emily Brummett having the only two singles. Olivia Lee took the loss.

Next they played the Manhattan Optimist Sting and lost 16-3.  Makayla Tegtmeier and Michaela Hayes pitched. Once again, lack of offense hurt.  Powers and Tegtmeier singled and Cassidy Cheever had a double.

For the final game on Saturday, the Chapman Lady Irish defeated the Aftershock 10-0.  Jayden Weers and Tegtmeier pitched.

On Sunday,  the Aftershock lost to the Clay Center 14’s, 8-2.

The Aftershock then lost to the Great Bend Quicksilver. Olivia Lee started on the mound and Hayes pitched in relief.  Singles by Powers, Tegtmeier, Weers, Brummett and Hayes could not create enough runs for a victory.

The final game with the Beloit Bosses was close until the last inning when the Bosses pulled ahead to win 8-6.

The Aftershock will play in Manhattan this weekend.
