Over the weekend, the Manhattan Optimist Aftershock 14-and-under fast pitch softball team went 1-2 in the Council Grove tournament on Saturday and 1-3 in Clay Center on Sunday.
The Aftershock opened play Saturday, suffering a 10-1 loss to the Chase County Explosion. On offense, Maigan Powers, Jayden Weers, Madison Rogers and Makayla Tegtmeier each singled.
Tegtmeier pitched with Ashley Faiola behind the plate. Next, Aftershock beat the Salina Heat 1-0. Rogers had two singles with Powers and Weers each adding a hit. Weers was the pitcher of record.
In their third game on Saturday, the Aftershock lost 4-5 to Emporia Energy using the international tie-breaker. Tegtmeier pitched with Powers handling the catching duties. Powers, Weers, and Faiola all singled and Rogers slugged a triple in the loss.
On Sunday, Aftershock travelled to Clay Center and started with a 4-9 loss to the Clay Center 12 B’s. Weers pitched.
Offensively, Weers, Rogers, Faiola and Cassidy Cheever singled. Alyssa Sias and Faiola doubled and Madison Rogers added a triple.
Next in the bracket was McPherson Lady Express. Loads of offense in this game took the Aftershock to a 13-3 victory. Singles were offered up by Weers, Rogers, Faiola, Cheever, Cheyenne Brunkow and Michaela Hayes.
Weers, Rogers and Tegtmeier added doubles. Makayla Tegtmeier also had a triple and was in the circle.
In the third game of the day, the Salina Herricanes beat Aftershock, 14-7. Weers and Tegtmeier shared the pitching duties. Brunkow had the lone triple and Ashley Faiola added a double. Rogers and Tegtmeier each added two singles.
The final game of the day was Clay Center 14 B’s beating Aftershock 2-6. Tegtmeier pitched another game. Offensively, the team was lead by a double from Faiola and singles from Rogers, Powers, Weers and Cheever. The Aftershock will be in action again this weekend in Clay Center.
