By The Mercury

The Manhattan Optimist 14-and-under Aftershock softball team played in Topeka in the Kansas USSSA ā€œCā€ state tournament this past weekend.

On Friday night, the Aftershock defeated the Abilene Attack 12-3.  Makayla Tegtmeier got the pitching victory and Ashley Faiola was behind the plate.  Jayden Weers led all hitters with a single, double and a triple. Tegtmeier had two doubles, Olivia Lee doubled and Faiola added a single and a triple.

The Topeka Lunachix defeated the Aftershock 6-0 on Saturday morning.  Weers took loss in the circle.  Faiola had the catching duties.  Alee Buss had the only hit of the game ā€” a single.

The Caney Fusion then defeated the Aftershock 13-4.  Weers took the loss.  Olivia Lee was behind the dish.  The lack of hitting plagued Aftershock again.  Weers had two singles with Tegtmeier, Emily Brummett and Kayla Marienau each adding one single.

In the final game, the Topeka Storm came away with a 3-2 victory over the Aftershock. Tegtmeier took the loss. Brummett, Faiola, and Alyssa Sias all singled.  Weers had a single and a double.

The Aftershock is now 7-9-1 on the year.  They will play this weekend in the Irish Invitational in Chapman.
