Olpe, Jeff North roll to open Class 2A tourney

The Olpe girls continued their perfect season by soaring over the Meade Buffaloes 59-29 during the first round of the Class 2A state basketball tournament on Wednesday at Bramlage Coliseum.

After a tight first quarter, the Eagles pushed their four-point lead to 19 by outscoring the Buffaloes 21-6 in the second period. Kendyl McDougald struggled from the field with a 3-for-12 performance, but led all scorers with 15. McDougald was joined by Elena Flott, who had 12 points and 15 rebounds.

The Buffaloes (16-8) were paced by Tarah Wiens, who grabbed 13 rebounds and poured in 11 points. Wiens was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, but missed seven of her eight free throw attempts.

Olpe (23-0) will play the Central Plains Oilers (19-5) on Friday at 3 p.m.
