A Manhattan man died after being ejected from his vehicle in an early morning crash on U.S. Highway 24, about 3 miles north of Manhattan.

Michael R. Ippert, 28, was driving his 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe west near the Tuttle Terrace Mobile Home Park when he drifted off the edge of the road, overcorrected and then lost control. Officials said the vehicle struck a guardrail and overturned, ejecting Ippert, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time. He died of injuries on the scene.

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers handled the crash and are still investigating its cause. Lt. Greg Harkrader said that alcohol and drugs are not suspected. An autopsy is planned.

Troopers were called to the scene at 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Ippert’s body was taken to Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan.
