Officials: Road work will not alter Veterans Day Parade route

Manhattan will honor military service members on Monday.

The Flint Hills Veterans Coalition has put together several activities honoring veterans on Monday, beginning with a 7 a.m. breakfast at the American Legion Post 17.

After breakfast, a parade will go down Poyntz Avenue from Third to 14th streets beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Dave Ekart, president of the Flint Hills Veterans Coalition, said participants will gather in the Sears parking lot at Manhattan Town Center. From there, the parade will follow Third Street to Poyntz Avenue and follow Poyntz Avenue, ending at 14th Street.

On Friday, Third Street was closed for sidewalk work and repair, but city officials said it will be open on Monday.

City engineer Rob Ott insisted that the street will be open for the parade, “even if I have to move the barricades myself.”

After the parade, service members will be honored in a ceremony at the Wareham Opera House.

A recognition banquet will take place in the American Legion Hall at 6 p.m. Monday evening.
