Norma Irene Berg, 92, of Manhattan died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Lyle House at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.

The family provided some of the following information.

She was born Jan. 27, 1922, on a farm near Montrose, the daughter of Albert William and Susan Cordelia (Osborne) Heldt.

Norma attended country school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Lovewell High School in 1939.

She moved to Manhattan in the mid 1940s and worked as a waitress and in retail sales.

On Nov. 25, 1958, in Manhattan, she was married to Kenneth Royal Berg. He preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Arlene Leece, Shirley Leece and Vera Heldt in infancy.

Norma was a homemaker and an excellent cook. She loved her dogs, enjoyed trips to the casino with the senior group, playing cards at the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center, and playing cards and bingo at Meadowlark Hills.

She is survived by two sister-in-laws, Garnett Worrel of Wamego and Dorothy Holladay of Topeka; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Devin Wendt officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery south of Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Meadowlark Hills Foundation for Lyle House. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
