Kansas State junior Petra Niedermayerova continued to add to her impressive trophy collection on Wednesday, as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) named her the 2013 ITA Central Region Player to Watch. This is the second time Niedermayerova has earned the award in her career, as she achieved the honor in her freshman season in 2011.
Niedermayerova, a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American and the 2011 Big 12 Player of the Year, is currently ranked No. 15 in the ITA national singles rankings. Niedermayerova, who was a unanimous All-Big 12 singles recipient for the third time this season, owns an overall record of 30-9 (.769). Her career-high 30 wins this season rank second in school history for wins in a season and she needs two victories to set the school record for singles wins in a season.
Niedermayerova earned a seeded position into the NCAA Division-I Singles Championships, and by doing so, is automatically rewarded with ITA All-American status for the second straight season. She is the first two-time ITA All-American in school history.
In her career, Niedermayerova is 78-32 (.709) to rank second in school history for career victories. With two victories, she will set the school record for singles wins in a career and become the first player in the program’s history to reach the 80 win mark.
Niedermayerova will travel to the singles and doubles championships, May 22-27, in Urbana, Ill. Niedermayerova will compete in both the 64-player singles and doubles portion of the event at the Khan Tennis Complex.
