Nicholas James Garcia, 25, of Wamego, died Wednesday, October 23, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as a result of an automobile accident. He had been a resident of the area since moving to Wamego in 1997 from Houston. He moved to Colorado Springs eight months ago.

Nick was born on Aug. 29, 1988, in Teays Valley, W. Va., the son of Julio and Cathy Dunaway Garcia. He attended local schools and graduated from Wamego High School in 2007. He then attended Highland Community College.

Nick worked as a drywall installer doing commercial and residential contracting in Wamego with his father’s business and then in Colorado Springs.

During High School, Nick was a active member of the College Hill 4-H club and a member of the Wamego band. He enjoyed playing several instruments, but especially enjoyed playing his guitar.

Nick is survived by his parents of Wamego; his maternal grandmother, Brenda Bryant, Wamego; his maternal grandfather, William Dunaway, Charleston, W. Va.; his paternal grandfather, Miguel Garcia, Houston; his fiancee, Elizabeth Scott; and his brothers, Julio Garcia, Jr., Marcos Garcia and Mario Garcia, all of Wamego.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego. The Rev. Mike Peterson will be the celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Garcia will lie-in-state on Tuesday starting at 3 p.m. at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego, where the family will greet friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A rosary prayer service will be 7 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Wamego High School Music Department.
