Nelson, Packers edge Saints

By The Mercury

Former Kansas State wide receiver Jordy Nelson caught the go-ahead touchdown pass on Sunday as the Green Bay Packers won 28-27 against the New Orleans Saints.

With Greg Jennings out, Nelson showed he could carry the load with eight catches for 93 yards.

Nelson has 21 catches in four games this season for 260 yards. Sunday’s touchdown was his first this season.

Darren Sproles made some plays for the Saints in the loss, running five times for 20 yards and catching five passes for 44 yards.

William Powell got a little action in the Arizona Cardinals’ 24-21 win over the Miami Dolphins. Powell had two carries for 2 yards and two catches for 6 yards.

On the other side, Daniel Thomas rushed four times for 4 yards, while making one catch for 6 yards for the Dolphins.

Josh Freeman’s efforts to pick up a win for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday fell short. Freeman led the team down the field for a go-ahead 47-yard field goal, but the Washington Redskins drove the field for a game-winning field goal in nearly 30 seconds, winning 24-22.

For the Redskins, Rob Jackson had two tackles, while Brandon Banks returned three punts for 17 yards.

Terence Newman made three tackles in the Cincinnati Bengals’ 27-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Zac Diles had four tackles for the Tennessee Titans in a 38-14 loss to the Houston Texans.
