Mustangs split with Abilene

By The Mercury

In games played last week, the Rock Creek softball team traveled to Abilene and competed in a pair of one-run games — winning the first one 9-8 and dropping the nightcap 5-6.

Blair Campbell earned the victory from the circle.  The Mustangs had nine hits and were able to take a 6-0 lead in the game, but had to tack on runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win and avoid the Cowgirls comeback.

Each of the nine players had a hit in the game. Megan Srna & Kayla Boltz each tripled, Breanna Stillwagon notched a double and all other starters singled.

Game 2 went down to the wire and was a 5-3 Rock Creek edge heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

Abilene challenged the Mustangs and it came up with three runs to earn the win.

The Mustangs are 1-3 on the season with games against Clay Center scheduled next.
