Mustangs open MEL play with St. Marys

Rock Creek opened up at 2-0 in Mid-East League play after sweeping St. Marys on Monday, beating the Bears 6-3 and 4-0.

In the first game, the Mustangs held St. Marys scoreless for the first four innings, while scoring three runs of their own in the bottom of the first.

The Bears tried to make their comeback in the top of the seventh inning, but the Rock Creek defense held on for the win.

Katie Hodges earned the win in the circle, finishing with five strikeouts. Bailey Elliott led offensively with a double and an RBI. Lauren Overkamp went 1-for-1 with a stolen base.

In game two, Blair Campbell pitched a 5-hit shutout for the Mustangs. Kelsey Quinn was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. Elliott had a double and Caitlyn Larson was 2-for-4.

The next action for the Mustangs will be Friday, April 20, when the team heads to Southeast of Saline for a doubleheader. Rock Creek is currently 7-3 on the season.
