Moxie plays in home tourney

The Manhattan Optimist 18-and-under Moxie softball team played in the “Take a Bite Outta the Lil Apple” tournament in Manhattan and Wamego this past weekend.

The Moxie used a big first inning to defeat the Indy Storm, 10-0 in first game of pool play.  The Moxie had a nine-run first inning. Abbie Plummer went 2 for 3, Alexis Campuzano, Shannon Caffrey, Mariah Kinderknecht and Linsey Kramer each singled with an RBIs. Miranda Hemmert also added a hit.

Brynn Hammett got the win in the circle for the Moxie, tossing four shutout innings — just two hits — with six strikeouts and one walk.

The Moxie faced the Heatwave in the second game and lost 5-2. Again Plummer went 2 for 3 and Alexis Wilson went 2 for 2. Shelby Holz, Brynn Hammett, Caffrey, and Campuzano each singled.

Caffrey took the loss. The last pool play game and Sunday bracket play was cancelled due to rain. The Moxie will play in the Hawaiian Hit-Fest in Wichita this weekend.
