One of Manhattan’s newest residents got some new political responsibilities Wednesday.
Sen. Jerry Moran, who moved to Manhattan earlier this year, was elected by Senate Republicans Wednesday to be National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman. Moran’s election came at the same time that Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, was elected Senate Minority Whip.
The position Moran will take over is primarily responsible for overseeing the election of Republican Senate candidates. Cornyn, the outgoing NRSC Chairman, replaces retiring Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., in the number two Republican spot.
Sen. Mitch McConnnell, R-Ky., was reelected Republican Leader by affirmation, the fourth time he has won the job without opposition.
