By The Mercury

Rock Creek High School’s Jacob Miller has been named the McDonald’s/KMAN Student-Athlete of the Year.

This local award is given to one graduating student-athlete and is based on participation in varsity sports throughout high school, involvement in other extracurricular activities, academic achievement in the classroom, leadership and citizenship, and financial need.

High school student athletes from Manhattan, Wamego, Rock Creek, Riley County, Frankfort, and Blue Valley are eligible for the award, with three applications being accepted from each school. A panel of three judges who have no ties to the schools determines the winner.

Miller will receive a $400 college scholarship, and a traveling plaque with his picture will be displayed in Rock Creek Jr. /Sr. High School for one year.

The most recent Rock Creek winner for this award was Taylor Ebert in 2010.
