Volleyball goes 4-1
In its final match of the Shawnee Mission South tournament, the MHS volleyball team had the opportunity to force a three-way tie atop for first, but only with a win over Olathe South.
The Indians rose to the occasion, dropping the first set 25-20 before winning the last two comfortably 25-14 and 25-19 to end the day with a win.
“The girls came out and really didn’t play well in the first set,” head coach Lisa Kinderknecht said. “We came out in the second set, obviously by the score, we dominated the net and our back row covered our hitters.”
In the final match, Allie Massanet led with 22 digs, while Kaci Cink had 12 kills. Maddie Winkler served eight straight points to finish off the second set. The loss to Manhattan was Olathe South’s only of the day.
The Indians started with a loss to Mill Valley in three sets, losing 17-25, 27-25, 15-25.
They bounced back against Lawrence, winning 25-22, 24-26, 25-20. They rattled off a pair of two-set wins against Shawnee Mission South (25-21, 25-22) and Wichita Southeast (25-9, 25-13), before facing Olathe South.
