MHS track wins Salina South invite

A number of Manhattan High athletes had successful days on Tuesday when the team participated in the Salina South Invitational.

Both teams won the meet, and a number of competitors took home first-place medals.

On the girls’ side, Kaci Cook and Jessie Kujawa tied for second in the high jump, while Alex Stenberg was fifth in pole vault and Taylor Smith was seventh.

Tarian Reeves won the long jump, while Sarah Tatarko was fifth in the triple jump. Mari Jo Massanet was second in discus with Stephanie Shanower in third and Kylie James in fifth. Shelby Root was seventh in javelin and Kassidy Scroggs was eighth. Massanet won the shot put with Kaylee Kipp in seventh.

ReJoyce Bryant was third in the 100-meter hurdles and Bri Walker was sixth. Emilie Liebe, Caitlin Heldt, Megan Ochoa, and Blake Fingalsen was second in the 4x800 relay.

Alaina Schroeder was first in the 1,600, while Jessica Smith was fourth and Amanda Frakes was fifth. Stenberg, Hannah Miller, Danielle Edwards and Reeves teamed to take fourth in the 4x100 relay.

Heldt was second in the 400 with Liebe in sixth. Bryant was fourth in hurdles and Walker was fifth. Rachel Beach finished fourth in the 800 run, while Fingalsen was fifth and Frakes was sixth.

Ochoa won the 3,200 run and Emily Van Natta was fourth with Alyssa Smith in eighth. Schroeder, Beach, Heldt and Jessica Smith teamed to take third in the 4x400 relay.

On the boys’ side, Nathan Mignano was seventh in the pole vault, while Logan Mahan was first in the long jump. Cain Blaha finished third in the discus, while Jacob Holloway won the javelin and Tim Gauntt was third.

Terrale Johnson won the shot put, while Ben Stegeman was second. Ben Bolton won the 110 hurdles and Colt Skidmore was sixth. Even Williams, Warren Scipio, Chris Martin and Keith Naranjo teamed to take second in the 4x800 relay.

Deante Burton was third in the 200 dash, while James Leblow was second in the 1,600 with Konner Cool in fifth and Michael Melgares in sixth. The 4x100 relay of Tony Daniels, Henry Bieber, Mahan and Burton were third.

Bolton was second in the 300 hurdles, while Williams was third in the 800 run with Chris Davis in seventh.

Chris Melgares was second in the 3,200 and Isaiah Koppes was seventh. Williams, Davis, Leblow and Cool teamed up to take sixth in the 4x400 relay.
