MHS thespians receive honors at conference

The Manhattan High School Thespian Troupe #941 was honored Jan. 3-5 at the 34th annual Kansas Thespian Conference in Wichita.

The troupe was awarded the highest category of GOLD Honor Troupe Award for outstanding service to the school and community, fundraising, number and quality of shows produced, troupe image boosting, commitment to producing social service productions, and initiating members into the International Thespian Society.

Troupe Historian Levi Jones presented the Troupe’s activities for the year to the panel of judges.

Senior Da’Merius Ford won one of seven $1,000 scholarships to the college of his choice for his performance audition out of 64 entrants.

Ford and Alex Tolar were awarded a Superior Rating for their musical theatre duet selection during the Individual Events competition.

Tolar was selected as one of the FIVE students out of the 1,200 attendees to host and run the conference as a State Thespian Officer.

Accompanying the students to the conference was Linda Uthoff, troupe sponsor and MHS theatre director, and chaperones Renee Gates, Luke Stramel and Suzanne Schmidt.
