MHS JV soccer wins Emporia tourney

The Manhattan High boys JV soccer team won the JV Invitational in Emporia on Saturday.

MHS beat Washburn Rural 2-0 in the first game, outshooting its opponents 11-2. Brandon Religa scored in the 13th minute with an assist by Michael Cossey, and Matt Turnley scored the second goal off an assist by Kirkland Lambert. Casey Hoffman and Wes Whitney shared the goalie duties, with each recording a save.

In the championship game, the JV shut out host Emporia 4-0. Austin French scored twice, with assists from Kodi Minocha and Lambert. Tyler Daveline scored on a header, with an assist to Religa. And Lambert scored unassisted.

The Indians outshot Emporia 17-5. Hoffman and Sachin DeYoung each had a save, and Whitney had two.

The JV moved to 9-1-1 on the season. Next action for the Indians is Tuesday when MHS hosts Wichita Northwest at Anneberg Park.
