MHS girls move up, boys fall out of ranking

By The Mercury

The Manhattan girls basketball team moved up one spot to No. 2 in this week’s Kansas Basketball Coaches Association 6A rankings, while the boys team fell out of the top 10. This comes after the girls beat Highland Park, 74-30, while the boys fell, 49-38, to the Scots on Friday night.

The boys team sits at 4-2, while the girls remain undefeated at 6-0.

The girls team has moved up steadily since being ranked No. 7 in the preseason poll. The boys started at No. 3 but moved down after a loss to Hays in the championship of the Hays Shoot Out.

Also appearing in the rankings is the Riley County girls basketball team, which checks in at No. 9 in the 3A rankings; the Wamego boys basketball team, which is ranked sixth in the 4A Division I boys rankings; and Rock Creek, which is ranked No. 7 in the 4A Division II rankings.

The Indians face Shawnee Heights at home Tuesday night. Riley County travels to St. Marys, Wamego plays Nemaha Central on the road and Rock Creek takes on Rossville at home.
