TOPEKA—The Manhattan High girls’ basketball team handed the Hayden Wildcats their first loss of the season Tuesday night, winning a nailbiter 51-49 on the road.

Manhattan’s Savannah Roberts hit the winning free throws after being fouled under the basket with 3 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Hayden’s Kirah Lohse put up a heave from halfcourt at the buzzer, but it bounced harmlessly off the backboard to complete the Indians’ rally.

Manhattan got a team-high 16 points from Amara Ehie off the bench, with Roberts adding 12, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter. Darby Price also added 13.

Hayden was led by Bree Schmidt’s 18 points.

Manhattan travels to Junction City on Friday.
