MHS forensics to compete at national competition

Six members of the Manhattan High Forensics team will be competing in nationals this summer. The National Forensics League National Speech and Debate Tournament will be held from June 11 to 15 in Indianapolis.

Linda Pei (International Extemporaneous Speaking), Peg Wefald (Congressional Debate), Brodie Herrman (Congressional Debate), Lucy Liu (Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking), Flora Riley (Dramatic Interpretation) and Jake Seaton (Original Oratory) will be competing. They made nationals by being among the top competitors in Flint Hills district.

This is business as usual for the team. Forensics coach Shawn Rafferty said members have been to nationals each of the last 10 years, winning various individual and team awards. “It’s become a pretty annual thing for us,” he said.
