Manhattan golf had its best team score by 10 strokes on Thursday.
The Indians shot a 320 at the Lawrence Free State Invitational, tying for 10th place in the 24-team tournament. Blue Valley North won the tournament with a team score of 288.
Head coach Brad Ficke said his team beat all of its league opponents and all but one of its regional opponents.
“We’re in a good position to qualify as a team for state, but doing some damage there is something that is only possible through hard work and steady improvement,” he said. “We’ve steadily improved so far. We’re progressing with a good attitude.”
Manhattan didn’t have any players finish in the top 15, but Wes Grogan (77) and Raul Garibay (80) had season-best games.
Ben Robben shot a 78, and Casey Gritton finished with an 85. Josh Priddle shot an 87 and Dustin Wichman rounded out Manhattan’s scoring with a score of 91.
Manhattan returns to action on Monday in the Topeka West Invitational.
