MHS boys defeat Wichita Heights, 55-46, in OT

DODGE CITY — Payton Stephens scored 25 points and the Manhattan High boys’ basketball team outscored Wichita Heights 11-2 in overtime to defeat the Falcons 55-46 in the first round of the Tournament of Champions on Thursday afternoon at United Wireless Arena.

The Indians (7-2) made 7 of 10 from the foul line in the extra period and held Heights scoreless for the first 3 ½ minutes of the four-minute overtime.

MHS, which led the Falcons 26-23 at halftime, advanced to play Hays in the TOC semifinals on Friday night at 7.

Stephens finished 11 of 15 from the field and hauled down nine rebounds. Alex Stitt also scored in double figures for the Indians, finishing with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers.
