Manhattan High graduate and University of Kansas signee Chris Melgares won the two-mile Kansas Shrine Bowl All-Star race on Saturday in Pittsburg, winning in a time of 9:43.5 by a margin of more than 25 seconds over the second-place finisher.
Alaina Schroeder took second place among all females in the race (12th overall) in a time of 11:25.6. Schroeder is also signed to run for KU in the fall.
Incoming freshman Cooper Schroeder also ran Saturday in the 10-14 age division, finishing in 11:15.2, good for eighth overall. Manhattan High cross country coach Susan Melgares also ran in the open event, finishing in 13:16.5 and 31st place overall.
