Medicare needs a permanent ‘doc fix,’ and more serious changes

By Letters to the Editor

To The Editor:
The behavior of our Congress should have Americans concerned about the future of Medicare. Before members of Congress headed off for their Christmas break in 2011, they passed legislation totaling $33 billion to extend the payroll tax cut, unemployment benefits and the “Doc Fix” which spares physicians from steep cuts of 27.4 percent in Medicare reimbursements. This quick holiday fix covered only January and February 2012.
