Meade rode the hot hand of Randall Friesen over Ell-Saline. Friesen was 9-of-13 from the field on his way to 23 points. He also pulled down 15 rebounds, eight of which were offensive boards amd blocked 11 shots.
The No. 1-ranked team in the 2A state tournament found itself up just one point at halftime, after scoring just 16 points through two quarters.
But the Buffaloes soon found their footing and outscored the Cardinals 35-13 in the second half, including a 14-2 romp in the third quarter to win 51-28. Colby Johnson scored 11 points and was the only player to score in double figures for the Cardinals.
Seven of Johnson’s 11 came from the free-throw line. Lucas Base added 7. The Buffaloes defense proved to be too much for the Cardinals as they were unable to record an assist for the entire game and committed 24 turnovers. Meade (24-0) will play Hamilton (21-3) at 4:45 p.m. today.
