The Manhattan Christian College women’s basketball team won two games last weekend at the Cookson Hills Classic in Oklahoma.
The Crusaders defeated Johnson University 65-57 in the first game. MCC led at halftime 34-25. The game pitted MCC’s quickness against the inside muscle of Johnson.
Manhattan shot 75 percent from the free-throw line and only committed eight turnovers in the game. Senior forward Brittany Shaklee scored 15 points and had five steals. Sophomore Leah Barger added 12 points. Libby Witte had six points and 11 rebounds.
In the second game of the Classic, MCC defeated Lincoln Christian 53-36. MCC’s half-court pressure defense held Lincoln to 16 first-half points.
The Crusaders took a 15 point lead going into the locker room at halftime before cruising to victory in the second half.
Witte paced MCC with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 19 rebounds. Manhattan was able to control Lincoln’s two high-scoring guards, Tatiana Colclasure and Moriah Kirkpatrick. MCC (10-3) is currently ranked No. 3 in the latest NCCAA Div. II poll.
