MCC volleyball competes at Spikefest Tournament

By The Mercury

The Manhattan Christian College volleyball team recently traveled to Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa to participate in the annual Spikefest Tournament.

The Crusaders were preseason ranked No. 2 in the NCCAA national top-10 poll going into the tournament.

Pool play brought on Faith Baptist Bible College, Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (Moore, Okla.) and Providence University College (Otterburne, Manitoba, Canada).

MCC went 3-0 in pool play, defeating all teams in three sets.

After finishing first in its pool, MCC took on the first-place team from the second pool, Maranatha Baptist University.

MCC struggled defensively and could not get into the match, losing in three sets to the No. 4-ranked Maranatha team.

MCC junior middle hitter Carrie Pilkington —from Oakley — was named to the all-tournament team.

The Crusaders will now host York College (York, Neb.) on Friday at the City Auditorium in Manhattan.
